Can you believe it’s October already? If it weren’t for the fact that (Canadian) Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, I would probably still be in denial! It’s been unseasonably cold and rainy over the past week, and any glee I felt at being able to wear my fall clothes was quickly eclipsed the minute I stepped out the door to be buffeted by wind and rain. Despite the cooler temperatures (and aside from the rain), fall is one of my favourite seasons; jackets, gloves and scarves come out, and cooking and baking activities turn toward roasts, pies, soups and all sorts of comfort food. Include the festivities of the upcoming months, and I find this to be a wonderful time of year.
I’ve just finalized this year’s menu, but thought I’d share the meal we had last year. Here’s our menu, and links to the recipes:

Pomegranate-Ginger Champagne Cocktail
Spiced Candied Pecans

Zucchini-Pear Soup
Mixed Greens with Prosciutto-Wrapped Pear and Belgian Endive

Roast Top Sirloin (grass-fed from Faul Farms, purchased at The Healthy Butcher)
Yukon Gold and Sweet Potato Gratin, via Epicurious
Green Beans

Cesari Mara Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso 2008 (for those of you who live in Ontario, this is available at the LCBO)

Dutch Apple Cheesecake with Streusel Topping
Coffee

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
